The Regensburg Rehabilitation Study

Project date range: 1.2.2017 - 31.01.2019
Funding Institution: "Diözese Regensburg" and "Stiftung der Regensburger Domspatzen"

Description

Since several years, the abuse and mistreatment of students of the Regensburger Domspatzen, which have taken place from 1945 until the early 1990‘s, have been discussed in public policies. For rehabilitation, committee consisting of victims and representatives of the church developed a concept that comprises three cornerstones: The first cornerstone is an independent contact point for victims offering therapeutic assistance. The second cornerstone is the assignment for the lawyer Ulrich Weber to investigate the cases of abuse and mistreatment. Complementing this approach with social science, the Centre for Criminology (KrimZ) based in Wiesbaden conducts a study (Regensburg Rehabilitation Study) to analyze social backgrounds and mechanisms of the abuse and mistreatment.

Methods

The Regensburg Rehabilitation Study consists of two parts. In the first part of the study we analyze documents and files that are retrieved from the Regensburger Domspatzen. In the second part, results of the file analysis will be basis to conduct interviews with victims, their relatives and other people involved. The interviews will focus on the experiences of the former students. Finally, the results will be published in a report.
