SMART - Further development of the individual risk analysis for violent extremism
Project date range: 01.12.2024 - 30.11.2026
Description
The Centre for Criminology (Kriminologische Zentralstelle - KrimZ) is part of a research consortium headed by the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) which is further developing the methodology of individual risk analysis as part of the “SMART” project (structured methodology for analyzing the individual risk of committing crime) for persons from the extremism spectrum who are known to the police. This individual case-based approach describes a comprehensive idiographic analysis of a person, which can be preceded by an assessment using the RADAR-iTE or RADAR-rechts risk tools. As part of the project, the procedures previously used by the Federal Criminal Police Office will be taken into account and, while incorporating established scientific methodological approaches, the further developed methodology will be documented in a guideline. The aim of the project is to enable a well-founded assessment of the individual risk in order to consider any necessary options for action with regard to preventing the commission of a severe, politically motivated act of extremist violence and to take them into account in the context of potential action planning.
